Using a storage unit is a great way to get rid of the clutter in you home, but your storage unit can only accommodate so much. If you have a lot of items that need to be stored and a small storage unit, we have a solution for you. Here are a few ways for you to maximise the space in your storage unit:
Items with drawers
If you are planning on storing any items with drawers or shelves in your storage unit, make use of this space! Don’t waste extra space by leaving the drawers and shelves empty. Fill them with small things such as cd’s, ornaments and other items.
Stacking boxes
If you aren’t stacking boxes, you’re doing it wrong. Save floor space by stacking boxes on top of one another. This is a much easier task to complete if the boxes are the same size. If they aren’t the same size, your stacks could end up toppling over. However, you can use different size boxes if you stack them from the largest on the bottom to the smallest on top.
Shelving
Use your wall space. If you don’t have items with drawers, or there are not enough draws to hold all the small items, invest in shelving. This can save you a lot of floor space and it will help you keep your storage unit organised.
Use roof space
It is not often thought of, but your storage unit roof can also be used to store extra items. Place hooks or bungee cords in the roof and hang the obscure items that you wouldn’t have space for on the floor. Bicycles are an example of an item that can be stored by hanging it from the ceiling.
Take items apart
To maximise space in your storage unit, take things apart. If there is no use for a table or a bed frame, take it apart. This way, it will take up less floor space in your storage unit, giving you more space for other goods.
